Established in 1989 Windsor Industrial Services, along with its sister company Windsor Laser Cutting Inc., manufactures conveyors and material handling equipment, and manages laser cutting operations, fabrication, machining, painting and assembly.
As a part of their day-to-day operations, Windsor Industrial Services manages over 250 deliveries a month between their multiple locations, vendors and customers across Ontario and the US.

Prior to the introduction of our solution some of the challenges that the client was facing included:
1. Deliveries were managed by a single point person. This was not only time consuming for the manager tasked with this coordination, but it was also inefficient for the other staff that needed to request the services of the delivery drivers.
2. Visibility: Staff were not aware of the status of the deliveries they requested, and drivers did not have an authoritative list of requests.
3. Management did not have a record of the deliveries completed for internal analysis needs.

Dattivo delivered a custom-built web application synchronized with a mobile application to allow office staff and drivers to have real-time information on the status of the deliveries. Specifically, the system we engineered included an office view (a web-based app) used by administrative and management staff to manage, schedule and coordinate the deliveries, and an driver view (a mobile app) used by the drivers to view the outstanding deliveries and update their status.

Given the clear scope of this project, we were able to capture the application’s needs in a single in-person interview. A high-level specification of the application’s functional requirements also containing a number of mock-ups was completed to confirm that the proposed solution would meet their needs. As each component of the application was implemented, it was sent off to the client for immediate feedback, which was then promptly incorporated. This approach not only allowed the application to fully satisfy the client’s needs and expectations, but also eliminated the need of formal user training since the end-users had been involved throughout the entire process.
